In Uttam Kumar’s world of lights and fame,

A film was set, where romance was the game.

Directed by Ajay, a story to unfold,

With Suchitra Sen, their tale would be told.

The year was ’57, in Kolkata’s embrace,

A time when the city had a different face.

The studio in Tollygunge, a place to create,

Where movies took form, dreams did resonate.

The government bus, route number twenty-seven,

Even that had to wait, no shortcuts to heaven.

Technicians preferred the evening’s calm grace,

To finish their work in that sacred space.

But before they could depart, as daylight waned,

Uttam Kumar’s words, a young boy retained.

He beckoned the lad, whispered something wise,

About a necklace lost beneath starry skies.

“Fetch the necklace,” he said with a smile,

To a child on a motorbike, travel that extra mile.

“Bring it here before we’re done for the day,

And in this romantic scene, the necklace will play.”

The boy set off, a mission in mind,

To find that necklace, one of a kind.

Yet, could he retrieve it, the mystery unknown,

From a place called Shoshan? To find it alone.

That evening, the crew gathered around,

To shoot a scene where love would resound.

But the necklace, missing, became their dread,

It was lost in a place of the dearly departed.

Uttam Kumar smiled, his eyes twinkled bright,

“I have a plan to make everything right.

The missing necklace, I’ll reveal its grace,

In a famous song, ‘Tumi Je Amar,’ embrace.”

Everyone rejoiced, as the scene was set,

With Uttam and Suchitra, a love story to get.

A romantic song that would forever define,

The magic of cinema, a love so divine.

In that moment, the lost necklace found its place,

As Uttam sang the song with Suchitra’s grace.

A symbol of love, in the moonlight’s gleam,

A necklace lost, yet found in a dream.

    Remembering a human being

In the realm of cinema, a star did shine,

    Famous actress, Meenakumari, so divine.

Born in ’47, in Pakistan’s embrace,

Before the screen, she’d find her place.

She began her journey as a child so young,

With roles in movies, her talent sprung.

But at the age of twenty-one,

She took on a new name, a new role begun.

Her real name was Mehzabin Banu,

Born in ’47, in Mumbai’s view.

Her mother Sukhonthi, a dancer so bright,

Taught her harmonium and music, just right.

    Ikbal Banu, her mother’s name,

Was a harmonium player, a musician of fame.

Ikbal Banu’s first child was a daughter,

    Meenakumari was her second daughter.

Ali Bux, her father, with loving grace,

Sent her to an ashram, a sacred place.

When he returned to take her home,

His daughter wept, her heart overthrown.

    Upon hearing her daughter’s cry,

Ali Bux held her, tears in his eye.

In his arms, he took her away,

To shield her from a life astray.

Her tears moved her father’s soul,

And she became Meenakumari, her new role.

In her second daughter, everyone could see,

The birth of a star, a destiny set free.

    Meenakumari’s grand mother, Hemasundari, too,

Freed from a child marriage, anew.

She embraced Christianity, found her way,

And from Bengal, to Meerat she’d sway.

In Meerat, she’d wed, a new chapter found,

To Pyari Lal, in love, she’d be bound.

A storyteller and journalist, known far and wide,

She carried her family’s legacy with pride.

Hemasundari was the daughter of the Rabindranath’s brother.

So, Meenakumari was Rabindranath Tagore’s great grand daughter.

The gratitude shown to Manna Dey

In the realm of songs, like a daily ritual,

Manna De, the singer, had his abode in Bengal’s capital.

But one day, abruptly, his song came to a halt,

As an unbearable pain surged through his heart’s vault.

A call was made to Dr. Devi Sheth,

Who prescribed an immediate medical feat.

    Manna De was swiftly sent,

To the hospital, where his health would be lent.

Accompanied by a loved one, he made his way,

To the hospital gate, where a crowd did sway.

As he advanced, he grasped the situation,

Hospital staff lined up in anticipation.

Dr. Sheth received word of their arrival,

Everyone welcomed them with great revival.

Manna De was overwhelmed by this show,

In this heartfelt welcome, emotions did flow.

    Manna De, somewhat unprepared,

    Responded with emotions bared.

Tears of joy from his eyes did swell,

As they hurried him to the hospital cell.

At the gate, it became clear to see,

No outsiders, just the hospital staff, you see.

Dr. Sheth received the news with grace,

All had gathered in this welcoming embrace.

Tests were run, and results did come,

Overall, they showed a healthy sum.

Manna De’s health was on the rise,

    Much to everyone’s great surprise.

Dr. Sheth addressed Manna De with care,

Saying, “You’re now in perfect repair.

You can leave today, my dear friend,

But take your medications without an end.”

Manna De was elated and said with glee,

“Thank you, doctor, I feel so free.

Please send the bill my way,

And write a release certificate today.”

A lengthy bill arrived without delay,

Listing charges for every item on display.

But amidst the charges, what stood clear,

Was the “zero occupancy” they held dear.

Manna De called Dr. Sheth aside,

“What’s this bill? Something seems awry!”

“Sir, your song has been my lifelong guide,

From childhood to adulthood,” he confided.

“In your songs of joy, I’ve taken flight,

And in your songs of sorrow, felt the plight.

So, serving the one who brought me delight,

Has brought joy to my heart, day and night.”

Manna De hugged Dr. Sheth with care,

No words escaped, just a silent prayer.

In his heart, he thought with grace,

Of the love he’d found in this sacred place.

In the end, as they held each other tight,

Manna De’s gratitude took its flight.

For the limitless love he’d found,

In the melody of life’s resounding sound.

    Celebrating the Birthday of Gopal
