In the heart of Indian history, a stalwart did arise,
Lal Bahadur Shastri, with unwavering eyes,
Born on the second of October, a day of pride,
In Mughalsarai’s embrace, by Ganges’ side.
From humble beginnings, he charted his course,
In the pages of freedom, with fervent force,
Leaving school to join the non-cooperation fight,
For a nation’s independence, he was shining so bright.
Caste-determined surnames, he chose to shed,
With a heart for the Harijans, he led,
In the footsteps of Gandhi, his path was clear,
To serve his motherland without any fear.
A disciple of Vivekananda, Gandhi, and Besant’s lore,
He joined the struggle, seeking freedom’s door,
The Indian Independence movement he’d embrace,
With unwavering faith and a steady pace.
Within Congress, he rose to great acclaim,
A servant of the people, a respected name,
In Nehru’s cabinet, he found his place,
As Railways Minister, he’d leave his trace.
Then Home Minister, he took the lead,
In a nation’s journey, where ideals would breed,
But it was as Prime Minister, his destiny’d unfold,
A leader of substance, courageous and bold.
Promoting the White Revolution’s noble quest,
He championed milk’s cause, for all, the best,
Amul’s co-op in Anand, Gujarat’s pride,
A symbol of progress, spreading far and wide.
The Green Revolution, he fervently endorsed,
In the soil of India, its seeds were tossed,
Food grain production saw a tremendous rise,
In Punjab, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh skies.
During the Second India–Pakistan War’s strife,
He guided the nation through a turbulent life,
With “Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan,” a mantra so dear,
For soldiers and farmers, a resounding cheer.
Tashkent Declaration’s ink was barely dry,
When destiny beckoned, it was time to say goodbye,
On the eleventh of January, in history’s art,
Lal Bahadur Shastri left, with a noble heart.
A leader, a visionary, in memory enshrined,
In India’s annals, his legacy defined,
Lal Bahadur Shastri, a man of great renown,
In the tapestry of time, forever he’ll be known.
