In Puri’s sacred, coastal land,

Where ocean greets the golden sand,

A mighty festival fills the air—

Ratha Jatra, divine and rare.

Three deities leave their temple gate,

As lakhs of hearts in silence wait.

Lord Jagannath, the soul’s delight,

With Balabhadra, strong and bright,

And Subhadra, their sister fair,

Ride grand chariots through chants and prayer.

On this occassion, the Grand Avenue,

Turns into a sea of saffron hue.

Massive chariots, crafted new each year,

With ospicious trees brought near—

The logs once drift on Mahanadi’s tide,

Now rise in chariots tall and wide.

Adorned with colors bold and grand,

They wait by Singhadwara’s stand.

Nine Parsva Devatas guard each side,

Four horses and a Sarathi guide.

As conches blow and drums resound,

The ropes are pulled, the wheels spin round.

To Gundicha Temple, they make their way,

Where the Lord and kin for seven days stay.

At last they reach their home once more,

But wait! A splendour lies in store—

Clad in gold, they dazzle bright,

A Suna Besha, a heavenly sight.

With ornaments of centuries old,

Their forms are dazzling with the gold.

From King Kapilendra Deva’s reign,

This golden dress is worn again—

A mark of joy, of war’s reward,

A tribute rich to the mighty Lord.

Nine lakh hearts, with heads held high,

With prayer beneath the sky.

No caste, no creed, just faith and song—

In Jagannath’s world, we all belong.
