    Seventeen years of dreams unmet,

The trophy’s gleam just out of reach.

With every match, with every set,

    A nation’s heart, a hopeful speech.

    Mahendra led with grace before,

A captain true, a legend made.

Yet fate denied, the final score,

A yearning deep, a hope that stayed.

Then came the day, the hour bright,

Against South Africa, a fight so fierce.

A game of passion, skill, and might,

Each run, each ball, a nation’s cheers.

    Seven runs the margin fine,

The victory ours, a tale so sweet.

The field was ours, the stars aligned,

A cherished win, a moment replete.

The players, warriors on the ground,

With tears of joy, they kissed the turf.

    Emotions raw, the cries profound,

    A dream fulfilled, a nation’s mirth.

They lay down in that hallowed space,

Their hearts aflame with pride anew.

    A memory time cannot erase,

A victory grand, a sky so blue.

    Seventeen years of waiting long,

The trophy’s back where it belongs.

In India’s heart, a jubilant song,

A tale of glory, brave and strong.
